glorious rain .....

beautiful, gorgeous
oh most welcome rain.
we are revelling in it.
not really - we are all cosy inside.  Venturing out when it is absolutely necessary.
You should all be able to see our smiles from where you are .....
summer. at last.

view from our home a few days ago - some showers down on the coast by bypassing us ...

almost surreal light

always the hope that rain will build

a little later as the sun moved upwards.  doesn't look like we have been 6 months parched but although the grass is green, the trees have been so stressed and have dropped a huge amount of their leaf.
underfoot is thick with brittle leaf litter .

The thing that affects us largely here is that although we are a catchment area for the coast, with all the restriction in building codes that involves, we all rely on rainwater here on the Range.  With all this rain our tanks are overflowing.  We are catching the tail end of cyclonic weather - that cliched saying 'it never rains but it pours' is ringing true at the moment.

Further south in Australia fires are still raging.

    1. Hi Ronnie. Rain has turned into very scary cyclonic conditions - you don't want these.
I think we have had about 400mls or 500mls and incredibly fierce winds which seem much worse when you live amidst tall trees on the escarpment! Exciting if it wasn't so scary!

  2. What incredible photos! I've visited the blog about your house numerous times, intending to comment, but am so in awe of it that the words won't come. What a glorious home you have.

Glad you got rain to help the parched earth.

    1. We do get stunning views here Valerie - up and down the coast for miles. Right now you can't see much at all except driving rain and flying debris coming straight in at us! Dramatic and frightening. But at least our tanks are full!

    1. Hello Ersi. We are blessed to be living in this beautiful area. At the moment with this incredible weather which you willprobably hear about on the news, it doesn't seem quite so magic. Rather be up here though than down on flat land. In the last 24 hours we have had about 360mls. Today though, the rain is heavier - will build today and through the night and start to move away tomorrow.

  7. What a view! We have views where I live in the UK but nothing compares with this fierce grandeur. Ours are gentle, benign and calm by comparison.

  8. The views over the Escarpment are amazing Charlton, but if you look back from that, we have rolling green hills like England. I think that is why we all love it so much up here - the drama and the gentility. My last home was just across the road about 200 metres along and it looked green and hilly - I planted gorgeous decidous trees and planted an English garden. It is now a very up scale B and B so I can still visit and see how the garden and trees are growing. Always a thrill. This home is poised on the edge, looks and feels industrial and I love it. MUCH easier for me to look after .....
